I believe that the selection of materials is key to determining the look and feel of a piece. Wood color, grain pattern, and cut vary greatly. The goal of HarlemBuilt is to carefully select and mill the lumber to bring out the best of these properties.

Although most HarlemBuilt furniture is constructed using solid hardwoods such as maple, walnut, cherry, and mahogany with a clear finish.  I also use laminated lumber and veneers, bamboo, plywoods, stains, and paint.  It all depends upon what we feel will work best for the design.

In order to have minimal negative impact on our planet, I purchase lumber from certified sources. I also use reclaimed lumber whenever I can. Most importantly, each piece is built to last, not to end up in a landfill.
